Adverse Birth Outcomes Associated with Heat Stress and Wildfire Smoke Exposure During Preconception and Pregnancy

Summary/Abstract

This study looks at the connection between preconception and prenatal heat stress and wildfire smoke exposure with adverse birth outcomes. The study also considered whether neighborhood climate vulnerability as an effective modifier. The study found that “living in more climate-vulnerable neighborhoods significantly modifies the effect of heat stress on [small-for-gestational-age outcomes], suggesting that the increasing adaptation capacity of communities may strengthen climate change resilience.”
