Emissions of Carbon Dioxide in the Transportation Sector

Summary/Abstract

The CBO report outlines how transportation has overtaken the electric power sector as the largest source of CO2 emissions in the U.S. It details the reduction in emissions from 2005 levels despite increased vehicle travel, attributed to improvements in fuel efficiency. The report projects further decreases in emissions due to enhanced vehicle technologies and greater use of electric vehicles, although it notes the challenges of changing consumer behavior and the current dependence on petroleum.
